Did you know one of the most common RV insurance claims happens at the gas pump? Overhead clearance is real folks and it is one of those things, with the proper preparation, that is avoidable.
What can you do?
It may sound simple, but know your RV. Measure the height of your unit from the ground to the highest point. Pay special attention to raised areas such as air conditioners or satellites. Use your manufacturer provided manuals as a guide. Give yourself some leeway, whatever your number is add another half foot. Log the info and keep it front and center in an area you can see and reference while at the wheel.
While we are talking, don't forget the sides and those tiny little poles scattered around the gas pumps and the random overgrown tree branch that doesn't touch your car but does a doozy on the side of your RV. Just think to yourself....<---|WIDE LOAD|---> or better yet. Post a sticker that says the same near your clearance reference so you remember.
